Overview

Airports, ports and public buildings for government agencies.

We provide design, design review and construction supervision for airports, ports and public buildings commissioned by government agencies.

AIA has worked on public infrastructure for the Kenya Airports Authority, the Kenya Ports Authority and the Government of Rwanda. Our role has ranged from design review on the Greenfield Terminal at JKIA to the design and construction supervision of the Manda Airport terminal and building facilities at Lamu Port.

Public buildings are used by large numbers of people and have to last for decades. We aim for layouts that are easy to understand, durable materials and buildings that are practical to maintain, while still giving the public a building they can be proud of.

Well-designed public infrastructure serves its users efficiently and remains fit for purpose as demand grows.

Why AIA

How we approach this work

Public projects come with formal procurement, multiple stakeholders and detailed regulatory requirements. Our experience with government clients in Kenya and Rwanda means we understand these processes and plan our work around them.

  1. 01

    Experience with public clients

We have delivered work for the Kenya Airports Authority, the Kenya Ports Authority and the Government of Rwanda.

  2. 02

    Design review

We review designs prepared by others, checking that they meet the brief, the standards and the budget before construction starts.

  3. 03

    Supervision on site

Our teams supervise construction, so the design intent is carried through to the finished building.

  4. 04

    Environmental awareness

We coordinate with environmental consultants on sites near communities or sensitive coastal areas.

  5. 05

    Stakeholder coordination

Public projects involve many parties; we keep drawings, decisions and approvals documented and agreed.

  6. 06

    Clear reporting

Regular progress and cost reports give the client the information it needs for oversight and accountability.
